The Myth of Energy Supplements: Three Big Reasons Why They Don’t Work!
Energy supplements are all over the place and in many
forms: drinks, pills, powders and even
gum! Companies are responding to the
growing need for energy supplements due to our busy, busy lifestyles.
We’re on the go constantly.
We don’t eat right. We don’t
sleep enough. Exercise? Ha!
Who can do that when we’re running on empty! Some people think that energy supplements
will fix all of their problems. Do they?
No. Sorry to say, but
energy supplements don’t provide you with what you need in order to stay
energized. They are no more valuable
than a cup of coffee. Well, a few of
them offer up an occasional nutrient or herbal that has some nutritional
value. For the most part, though, these
can’t replace the natural energy supplements found in a healthy diet.
- Energy
supplements will never replace all of the natural energy supplements that
are found in vegetables and lean protein sources
In nature, antioxidants are found in abundance in fruits and
vegetables. They are all designed to
work together. That’s why a wide variety
of fruits and vegetable are advocated in a healthy diet. Energy supplements can’t duplicate this for a
few reasons.
For one, you won’t find many energy supplements that also
include fibre. Fibre is essential for
proper digestive health. Without it, our
colons can be come lined with toxic faecal build up. Those toxins tend to irritate our
neurological systems which make us fatigued and irritable.
The other reason why energy supplements can’t replace the
real thing is because science hasn’t even figured all that vegetables
contain. Once upon a time, we knew that
carrots contained beta-carotene. Now we
know that there are a whole slew of carotenoids in orange and red fruits and
vegetables.
We can’t duplicate what we haven’t discovered and it is
known that the carotenoids work most effectively when they work as a family.
- Energy
supplements also don’t contain protein.
Protein in a healthy diet is necessary for proper cellular
function, healing and muscle growth; all of which are necessary for optimum
health. This is where real energy comes
from.
- Herbals
in energy supplements don’t over-ride an unhealthy diet
Energy supplements claim to provide you with herbals that
have been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. True.
However, as useful as these herbals are to people who live in China
and who have for centuries eaten healthful diets, they aren’t going to help
people who live in the Western world today and eat a typical Western diet.
Ginseng and eleuthro root cannot override all of the bad
things we put in our bodies. We eat
highly fattening food loaded with trans fats and saturated fat. The mere digestion of these fast puts a large
amount of free radicals into our bodies.
Again, for real energy, true energy, you can’t skip all the
real solutions and use energy supplements.
Many of those drinks are loaded in sugar as well. They may provide you with a burst of energy,
but the end result will be a crash later on.
Not to mention that you might even feel jittery for awhile
as the energy supplement is tricking your body into feeling momentarily
energized.
Drop the energy supplements and opt for a healthful way of
eating!
